Griffin Home Description

Welcome to Griffins’ “Eagle Head” mountain retreat – an Estes Park vacation rental home.

Never doubt that you have come to “the West.” When first you cross the threshold at Griffin, a rich tapestry rug woven by Native American hands grabs your attention and is reluctant to let go.

But, free your gaze and turn your attention to the great windows facing west and north to best know why you have come here. The majestic mountains of the Front Range stand hand-in-hand with the soaring peaks of the Mummy Range of the Rocky Mountains. Each mountain in this artful array of mass upon mass has both feet planted firmly in Rocky Mountain National Park. The incisive line their peaks inscribe across the sky is the western Continental Divide of the United States. In the nearer distance the rocky ramparts of Ram’s Horn Mountain adorn the eastern horizon. It is upon the slopes of the Ram’s Horn that your vacation residence is anchored in prestigious Windcliff Estates.

Chambord Legacy

Griffins’ “Eagle Head” is one of the stunning Chambord duplexes anchoring the Estates’ southern boundary. The Griffin living room with its lofty beamed ceiling and hewn-rock wood-burning fireplace is forever focused on the mountains — just as you will be. Campaign-style furnishings exude rustic comfort for your contemplative times at “Eagle Head.”

The kitchen is replete with every essential tool of the culinary arts. It stands ready to partner with you in preparing the fish you caught today — or whatever hearty fare you have in mind. You may dine in or out. The gracious dining room is set for six in the presence of photographic art by noted photographer J. Craig Stephens, and the collection of crèche scenes from around the world that adorns the hutch. Or, you can opt for an outdoor “table with a view” (make that a “million-dollar view!”) on the redwood deck immediately at hand. The wildlife will pay you little mind as they graze past your deck. You, on the other hand, are welcome to be mesmerized!

Settle Down

There is a donkey snuggled on the great bed in the second master suite downstairs. Honest! And, two more bedrooms ensure comfortable repose for every member of your party. Such is their alignment that the mountains come bursting in at first light every morning with tempting offerings of adventure and fun.

Venture Out

Step out back just across your driveway. There is an invisible, but significant, boundary there. Cross that imaginary line best known to the deer, elk, bear, and bobcats and you are setting foot in Rocky Mountain National Park. Where else could you gaze out your front window all day long at the splendor of snow-dappled peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park, and then step out your back door as evening calls to partake of the same National Park so intimately at hand?

A Native American “Dream Catcher” adorns the stairwell at Griffins’ “Eagle Head.” It is said in Indian lore that “dream spirals” are drawn to the Dream Catcher. Good dreams are allowed to pass through a small opening in the middle on their pathway to fulfillment while bad dreams are caught up in the Dream Catcher’s web to vanish with the first rays of a new day’s sun. Surely your dreams of a memorable vacation stay will be fulfilled in the splendid mountain retreat offered by the Griffins. Visitors galore have inscribed their heartfelt sentiments…….

  • “We took a ‘flower trek’ and found pussy toes, Pasque flowers, golden banner, mouse ears, larkspur, whiskbroom, parsley, tansy aster ………mesmerizing!”
  • “…..elk, deer, hawks, coyotes. What a wondrous place!”
  • “…..snow sledding, sleigh rides, skiing at Eldora, feeding six deer from our deck…..such memories!”
  • “Such luxury away from home!”
  • “Rocky Mountain High — indeed!”
  • “What a great time we had here. Such a well-designed and well-stocked home — the perfect base from which to enjoy the National Park.”
  • “The stars of the Milky Way amazed us!”
  • “We couldn’t ask for anything more!”

A SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Griffin” — separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the “Griffin” residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!
