Welcome to the Estes Park vacation rental home the world knows as “Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat.”
This remarkable mountain residence stands proudly near the southern boundary of prestigious Windcliff Estates on the slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat overlooks one of the most majestic mountain vistas imaginable. Spread before you in seemingly-unending array are the towering summits of the mountains comprising the Front Range and the Mummy Range of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain National Park. The Continental Divide is etched against the azure blue of the Colorado sky as it connects stalwart peaks proudly hailed as Hallett, Flattop, Stone’s Peak, Terra Tomah, Sundance, Chapin, Chiquita, and Ypsilon. Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat is the perfect base camp from which to explore the 415 square miles of the National Park and its majestic offerings. Indeed, Windcliff’s private “trail entrance” to the Park is only a few hundred feet from the Kelleys’ front door. Rocky Mountain National Park yearns to introduce you to its 359 miles of pristine trails, 150 placid lakes, and 450 miles of streams rumbling and stumbling through the gorges.
The living room at Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat is oriented towards the mountains. Beneath the supporting beams of its high ceiling, a peaked window mimics the mountains it so proudly frames. Massive leather chairs welcome your hours of conversation and contemplation. A wood-burning fireplace peeks out from a wall of Colorado moss rock. Bronze statuary, water colors, a cattle drive on canvas, and antique prints adorn the walls. Twin west-facing decks afford space to relax, grill some trout, or watch until the sun has surrendered the sky to the moon and the stars. Kelleys’ kitchen and bar is an angular masterpiece composed of granite, rich wood, and tile. Every essential tool or vessel a chef could desire is provided and awaits an opportunity to assist with the culinary urges inspired by your surroundings. You’ll find the famous “Colorado Cache Cookbook” temptingly at hand. Try Barbara Conwell’s Ham Stuffed with Fruit and Nuts or Katie Stapleton’s Sole Veronique. Set the great dining table for your family and guests. Or, move your dining fare and family outside to a table on the deck. In either setting the million-dollar view of the Rocky Mountains is a standard condiment to dress up every meal.
The master bedroom at Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat features an over-sized king bed with a gnarly aspen-wood headboard, a wood-burning fireplace, and its own private access to a west deck with superb views into the mountains. The stunning ensuite bathroom has a steam shower and a lounging tub seemingly set amidst the forest that adjoins the Retreat. Deer and elk are frequent visitors. And, an intimate, redwood-lined sauna room stands ready to bake away the happy aches of the afternoon’s trail ride.
Downstairs are three more bedrooms and a bunkhouse for four surrounding a “great room” that truly is. There’s a home theater, a library, games, and a magnificent pool table with cues at the ready and the balls racked for action. And, just when everything already seems perfect, you discover the new hot tub perched on the deck just outside. You would love to stay immersed in conversation and the tub’s soothing waters forever, but even that wouldn’t be long enough to count all of the stars that the heavens over Colorado unveil.
Rocky Mountain National Park does not offer overnight accommodations. They say, “We’re sorry, the Park doesn’t have a lodge.” Actually, that’s O.K., because there’s one right next door! Many they are who have experienced the lodge we call “Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat,” and their words ring with their wonder at it all:
- “Deer grazed in the yard at dusk and the stars in full array were an added bonus. ‘Twas the icing on the cake of a wonderful week in Estes Park.”
- “This home met and exceeded our every wish for a vacation home in the Rockies. The hot tub, sauna, and pool table provided entertainment when we weren’t sitting in front of the fire enjoying the fabulous views.”
- “Awesome views! Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat gets an eleven out of ten from us! A very memorable spring break for my whole family.”
- “Absolutely beautiful views within a few yards of a walking trail leading into Rocky Mountain National Park.”
- “…..a great setting to enjoy the beauty of God’s Creation!”
A SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat” — separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing “Kelleys’ Mountain Retreat” is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!
