If you’ve ever stayed in a Windcliff vacation home or visited Estes Park, you know that Rocky Mountain National Park (also known as RMNP) is, essentially, right in our backyard. This means that wildlife is abundant here, with opportunities for epic photographs and serene appreciation of nature at every turn.

Most often, you’ll see brown mule deer roaming the countryside, but sightings of the majestic elk and moose are also common — and even the busy (and adorable) beaver. If you’re making the trip out here to enjoy seeing all of these creatures among their natural habitatr, you’ll have an excellent opportunity to learn more about them from one of RMNP’s landscape ecologists.
Hanem Abouelezz (quoted here in the Denver Post, in regards to the thriving growth in the moose population in RMNP a few years ago) will be speaking in the taproom of Estes Park’s Rock Cut Brewing Company on the evening of March 12, 2020. Guests will not only learn about the wildlife and RMNP ecology, but get a “behind the scenes” look at how RMNP monitors and manages these natural resources.

It’s never too early to secure your spot in the Estes Park Whiskey Warm Up event, to be held on March 7 this year.
Fittingly, it’s also the 7th annual occurrence of this fine day, where travelers and locals alike gather to sip on the finest of Colorado whiskey. Local distilleries will be present and pouring their ambrosia for guests, and attendees can learn more about the craft from the educators at the Elkins Distillery booth. Of course, they’ll be joined by many others in the field—over a dozen if the current official event site is listing all in attendance. This includes favorites such as Axe and the Oak, Golden Moon Distillery, Syntax Spirits, and Tower 56.
While enjoying your fine spirits in hand, you can enjoy live music (to be announced) and even a hand rolled cigar from Palma Cigars — the only cigar manufacturer in Colorado — if that’s your fancy!
The 7th annual Whiskey Warm Up festival in Estes Park will be held at the George Hix Memorial Plaza, and you can purchase your tickets from the official site. They’re still available as of the time of this post, but remember, they sold out last year so get them quick!

With the holidays fast approaching, you’re no doubt getting caught up in planning. Planning for time spent with friends and family — and the gifts they’ll be receiving.
But your plans might be different. Instead of braving the malls, long lines, or nasty traffic on Black Friday — you’re planning a getaway to a different kind of post-Thanksgiving event. A time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the experiences we share. A time to celebrate the upcoming holidays (and for those giving gifts, to shop local!). A time spent in some of the most beautiful wild country America has to offer.
That wild country is our own Estes Park, Colorado! There’s already plenty of things to do here — but on November 29th, 2019, the town will be starting off the weekend with the one-of-a-kind Annual Catch the Glow Parade.
What is the Catch the Glow Parade?
Every year, as many as 20,000 visitors and locals line up on Elkhorn Avenue in Estes Park to enjoy a holiday parade like no other. You’ll see more than 40 participants ranging from custom floats to marching bands and specialty vehicles. Families enjoy spending the afternoon experiencing the parade, as well as seeing all that downtown Estes Park has to offer. You can also meet Santa… of course!
How do I attend the parade?
The parade is free to attend and welcomes all visitors. If you’re planning a holiday getaway in Colorado, make sure that your accommodations are as luxurious and beautiful as the nature that surrounds you. Windcliff vacation rental homes in Estes Park offer something for every visitor and every budget — so you can recharge, rest, relax, and celebrate in style and comfort.
For more information on the Catch the Glow Parade, see the official site. Hope to see you this holiday season!
If you missed the Rocky Mountain Craft Spirits Festival last weekend, don’t fear — there’s another chance for you to join with friends and family in Estes Park, surrounded by the finest craft beverages available in our fine state.
What is the Fall Back Beer Festival?
The “Fall Back” Beer Festival takes place in the Estes Park Events Complex on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 1-5PM. It’s sponsored by one of our favorite local restaurants, Poppy’s Pizza and Grill. The event features over thirty Colorado breweries, offering unlimited (yes, the website says unlimited!) samples of over one hundred beers on offer.
Of course, the event has something for everyone and for guests of all ages. There’s kids activities, food trucks, vendors, and live music — plus samples of other fine liquids such as kombucha, coffee, and even craft sodas.
How do I attend?
There are a number of ticketing options available, and you can purchase them from the official event site.

Well, besides bands, brats, and beer — there’s plenty. Over the weekend there will be six bands to listen to, and vendors serving a variety of delicious food and drink including corn-on-the-cob and fine chocolate. One of the most popular events in our town is the upcoming — and legendary — Estes Park Elk Fest.
What is the Estes Park Elk Fest?
The Elk Fest is dedicated to celebrating the annual elk rut and the magnificent creature itself, also known as “wapiti” (from the Shawnee and Cree languages). Not only is the festival the absolutely perfect opportunity to experience the beauty (and sounds) of Colorado’s elk, it’s a family friendly event with activities galore.
What’s Happening at this year’s Elk Fest?
Of course, there’s an abundance of elk-related goodness for all ages — including seminars, exhibits, and arts & crafts (all elk-inspired) as well as a special children’s area chock-full of fun and educational activities.
Vendors will also be present and offering an array of artwork, jewelry, and unique elk foodstuffs. Pair this with a craft beer garden and live music each day, and you’ve got a festival that has something for everyone.
Plus, not everything here is elk-themed… the popular “Mountain Man Rendezvous” will be there, as well as the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program. See here for the full list of events. (schedule subject to change.)

Did you know that Estes Park, Colorado is also known as the “Celtic Capital of North America?” It naturally follows, then, that the Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival is an event that has been bringing visitors to our beautiful town for over 40 years.
About the Highland Festival in Estes Park
When it comes to the Highland Festival, it’s hard to think of what ISN’T happening, since there’s so much to see and do.
First, there’s a wide selection of Celtic music from bands including Seamus Kennedy, The Gothard Sisters, The Brigadoons, and more. There’s also Irish dance, Highland dance, and even pipe band competitions. Of course, there’s also a parade (happening on Saturday, September 7th in downtown Estes Park.)
We’re not even close to finished yet. There’s jousting. There’s the Scottish Horse Boarding Competition. And the — new to the Festival — Tattoo Estes USO show, featuring over 300 performers that will fill the Fairgrounds Arena. There’s even something for the dog lover in all of us: with Dog Agility, Sheep Herding, and Disk Dog exhibitions on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Truly an event of epic proportions — you just have to come to Estes Park to see the Highland Festival.
And if you’re looking for a place to stay that goes above and beyond your standard lodging, we invite you to find a Windcliff vacation rental home for the perfect place to refresh after a long weekend of fun and celebration.
