HISTORY OF WINDCLIFF HOMES

IT ALL STARTED WITH A CABIN

Windcliff Estates was homesteaded and incorporated in 1905 in the name of Denver, Colorado newspaperman Frank Webster. Frank and his wife Cora had originally built their homestead cabin in 1902.

DON & WYLENE BUSER GROW WINDCLIFF

Don Buser — a dentist from Iowa — and his wife Wylene purchased this homestead cabin and the acreage that eventually became Windcliff in the 1950s and 1960s. Wylene began the vacation rental program in 1970 and their operations actually predate the covenants of the Windcliff Property Owners’ Association (WPOA) and the creation of the Estes Valley Development Plan.

Wylene conferred responsibility for vacation rentals, lot & home sales to Brad Dement in the 1980’s — who later transferred ownership to George Leonard in the early new millennium.

WINDCLIFF TODAY: DEVELOPMENT, VACATION RENTALS, AND LAND & HOME SALES

Don and Wylene were instrumental in developing Windcliff into what it is today: a beautiful, secluded, and luxurious getaway right by Estes Park, Colorado.

    • 282 acres
    • 160 platted properties
    • 5 miles of privately owned and maintained roads
    • Over 133 acres of private green space bordering both the Roosevelt National Forest and Rocky Mountain National Park

Today, Windcliff Homes aka “Windcliff Vacation Rentals” and the Windcliff Real Estate business are owned and operated by Windcliff residents who have owned two different homes in the Windcliff rental program before ultimately becoming full-time residents and owners of the Windcliff “gatehouse.”

Oh, and the original Windcliff homestead cabin? It’s still standing today, owned by the Davis family from Austin, Texas.
