property description+

Perched at 8,200 feet of elevation on the sunny, western-facing steep slopes of Rams Horn Mountain, Herondale was designed to bring the panoramic, majestic views of Rocky Mountain National Park into every room of this custom Estes Park Colorado mountain home. Located in the premier residential community of Windcliff Estates in Estes Park CO, this recently updated custom home offers easy, year-round access with 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and two living areas on two levels. Herondale expresses the very best in home architecture, epic views, gorgeous setting, and luxury amenities.

Luxury Mountainside Year-Round Living

Your experience at Herondale is accessible in all weather and year round.  Just a short 1-mile drive to the East Portal of Rocky Mountain National Park and 5 miles from the town of Estes Park, Colorado, Herondale provides easy access but remains peacefully set apart from the summertime lines and crowds.  Windcliff is abundant with wildlife: elk, moose, bear, mule deer, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, and even the occasional reclusive bobcat!  This is the best of all worlds:  accessibility, privacy, residential character, setting and unmatched mountain views!

A Colorado Rocky Mountains Experience like None Other

Upon arrival, Herondale’s massive newly remodeled entry/living deck begs you to stay outside while magnificent, unimpeded panoramic viewsof Rocky Mountain National Park and the snow-capped peaks hypnotize you with their majesty.  As the sun sets over the Continental Divide, settle into comfortable outdoor lounge furniture and a Herondale’s bar-height dining table. Enjoy unmatched views while you grill the family’s evening meal then dine al fresco and raise a wine glass in salute as the sun sets over the mountains.  Cooler air comes quickly at 8,200′ elevation so pull on a jacket and light the in-table gas fire pit to keep the family warm and the story telling lit by the dancing flames while you plan tomorrow’s itinerary for adventure.

Lodging, Resting, and Entertaining at Herondale

When the chill of the rarified air finally chases the family indoors, they’ll be welcomed by soaring, vaulted, wooden ceilings and a wall of west facing full-length windows that continue to saturate your family memories with panoramic mountain views. A double-sided wood-burning fireplace provides requisite log fire ambience to both the large living room and cozy dining areas on cold nights, while underfloor heating and forced air heat keeps every corner of the home warm and comfortable year-round.

Herondale’s kitchen is freshly redecorated with chef-quality 5-burner induction stove, slate, steel and glass tile backsplash and a stainless-steel range hood soaring up to the vaulted pine ceilings.  The kitchen is equipped with stainless-steel appliances including a full-size double oven, under-counter microwave drawer, refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher.  Other appliances include coffee maker and grinder, electric kettle, griddle, waffle iron, toaster, and everything else you’ll want and need to feed the family.

The cozy breakfast area provides seating for six and the larger live-edge rustic wood table in the dining area comfortably accommodates eight.  The small bar in the living area is equipped with cocktail mixer, champagne bottle/ice bucket, games, etc.

The master bedroom (king) is also located on the upper level and leads to a second deck.  Sit outside and enjoy a morning coffee or evening drink while watching the sun set over the Rocky Mountains.  The master bedroom is equipped with 50” HDTV, satellite tv channels and tv internet access (if you want to access your Hulu, Netflix, or other accounts).  Architectural windows extend up to the vaulted ceiling, and the antique corner seat, wood spinning wheel, baskets and fabrics complete the homely ambience.  The en suite bathroom includes dual vanities, bath, shower/steam shower and underfloor tile heat.

A massive, luxury bath rounds out the main level offering guests a steam shower and jetted tub under a light-saturating skylight.

Herondale’s Lower Level

Descending Herondale’s winding central stair offers access to two additional bedrooms and a second living room with a double sleeper sofa, 50” HDTV with satellite tv channels and DVD player, as well as a large supply of DVDs that you are welcome to watch, or books if you prefer to read.  There are also toys for younger children to enjoy.

A second master bedroom with ensuite bathroom includes a queen size bed and bunk beds (one twin bed above a couch that converts into a double bed/futon).  The third bedroom includes a queen size bed, a large stuffed teddy bear (for those kids that might be missing home) and a dresser.  The hall bathroom is located just outside the bedroom door with single vanity, bath/shower combo and private water closet.  The house has three hot water tanks ensuring an ample supply of hot water, and all living and bed rooms include window blinds to block out the early morning light.  A laundry closet with washer and dryer complete the indoor lower level offerings.

Walking outside the lower level you’ll find a 4-person seating/table area and two 2-seater wooden swings hanging from the overhung upper level.  There is no better place to read, chat or relax while sheltering from the elements.  You may not be the only one enjoying this special cozy space as herds of mule deer frequently shelter under the overhang overnight as well.
